A “gem of a memory” mini-concert

I went to Lausanne for a meeting this weekend (lucky me) and took along my ukulele as I often do on trips, hoping for an opportunity to play and sing. It wasn’t to be. But towards the end of my journey back home, in the train to Rotterdam, I gave an impromptu mini-concert, singing the chorus of one of our Two Doors Down songs: “This is for you, this gem of a memory … this is for you to keep” (written on the ukulele, and easy enough to play from memory).

In fact, I got to play the chorus twice. My audience: a lapsed guitar player and two train conductors. I was sitting in a vestibule (I think that’s what you call it) near the door (and the toilet), surrounded by my luggage, and the guy next to me was drawn to my instrument in its mandolin case. So I took it out and we shared a “gem of a memory” right there, together with first one and then a second train conductor doing their rounds, with the sounds of the train and rushing wind as a backdrop to my little song.

I hope I have inspired my travel companion to pick up his guitar again, and/or get himself a ukulele. The few chords he played on my instrument sounded really sweet. And I hope the train conductors also have good memories of our brief encounter.

Double concert with TeeBee Brown (30 May)

Two Doors Down will be performing in a joint concert at Werklicht in Rotterdam on Saturday 30 May.

Come and hear the guys from TeeBee Brown bring something extra to 3 of our standards (Weather well, I met the dragon and Mr Spitz), spicing up our set.

For our part, we’ll be adding sweet harmonies to a few of their standards too. For more info: https://www.facebook.com/Werklicht#!/events/786354778108056/

Performing in the Fairest Cape and beyond

Margriet and I spent a week together in Cape Town in April, and took the opportunity to give some concerts, one in a nursing home in Hermanus where friends of mine live, and one in a guesthouse in Kommetjie. I also sang in Huis der Nederlanden in Pinelands, in St Barnabas Tamboerskloof and at a friend’s home in Plumstead. Margriet for her part sang with two groups of primary school children during her stay in Morija, Lesotho.

Two Doors Down debut EP release in Dordrecht, 11 April 2014

Two Doors Down presenteert hun debuut EP in De Vreemde Eend, Dordrecht.

Op vrijdag 11 april zal Two Doors Down de EP “Life’s Like That” presenteren in De Vreemde Eend te Dordrecht.

De zelf geproduceerde EP “Life’s Like That” bevat 5 nummers van de “band” (duo) rondom singer-songwriter, Irene Bom.

Two Doors Down staat op 11 april om 20.00 in De Vreemde Eend, Bagijnhof 27, 3311 KE Dordrecht (tel: 078-6316678)
