I met the dragon

by Irene Bom

I was eleven and I thought it kind of heavenly
to go to a school run by nuns, Ave Mary
It wasn’t long before I caught on
Anywhere, even there, you might meet someone scary.
Here’s what happened to me:

Chorus
I met the dragon, I met the dragon
She made us shudder in our shoes as a rule
I met the dragon, I met the dragon
Dragon in a habit who terrorized the school.

She taught piano – One on one with her was harrowing
Sitting there beside her on the stool, O, be wary
Now, would she spew flames? Would she live up to her name?
Petrified, no place to hide – I tell you, it was hairy.
Lord, have mercy on me.

(Repeat Chorus)

One day she was gone and the rumours spread
She had blown a fuse, she had lost her head
No more encounters with that dreadful dragon
I never saw her again

I met the dragon, I met the dragon
But I’m here to tell the tale, I survived
I met the dragon, I met the dragon
Dragon days are over, may they never be revived
Dragon days are over, may they never, ever, ever be revived.
Amen.
